The Youngstown Hearing & Speech Center’s Integrated Therapy Program is designed to serve children from birth to approximately
three years of age with fine and gross motor delays and
communication or feeding delays, residing in Mahoning & Columbia
counties. Licensed Speech/language Pathologists, a licensed trained
Social Worker, and licensed Physical Therapists and
Occupational Therapists from Forum Health, specializing in the treatment of infants and
children staff the program.
Children from birth to three years of age with multiple developmental delays
who
are medically fragile can benefit from the program.
It is often difficult for parents of medically fragile children to
obtain all three therapies at one site simultaneously, YHSC meets
that need. The three-therapists work with the group of
children in the same room. This allows for some
socialization activity with the children. The program provides
complete developmental assessments, consultation and referral
services and assistance in selecting necessary equipment the
families may need for their child.
The program objectives are designed to meet the needs of both the
infants and families.
- Increase ability of the parents and caregivers to participate in
the total
habilitation of their child in the home.
- Improve the coordination of all therapists working with the child
- Increase the infants and child’s pragmatic and socialization
skills through
participation in a group setting.
- If appropriate assist families in transitioning to other programs
as needed when the child becomes 3 years of age.
- Maximize the child’s development in all modalities through the
integrated therapy approach combined with the high degree of parental
involvement.
